So far the London Olympics have been a giant success, one that makes you proud to be British. An ideal situation for the legitimate partners of this year’s Olympics, given that they have invested a lot of time and money for their association. However it is not only the official partners that are grabbing the headlines – below PrettyGreen take a look at a few of their favourite hijackers so far …
It’s amazing how a glasses brand can spark so much humor in their creative ads and as the most remembered and cheap campaigns have proven – humour should be the focus for British consumers
2) Paddy Power
The Irish bookmakers don’t disappoint with this stunt and continue to be the leaders of clever sports stunts. Paddy Power’s ad proclaims that the Irish bookmaker is the “Official sponsor of the largest athletics event in London this year! There you go, we said it”. They then go on to reveal that the sponsorship is of an egg and spoon race to be held in the town of London in France.
The stunt was so clever that even LOCOG couldn’t shut them down…
In another sleight at the men in suits, off licence chain Oddbins have really taken it to LOCOG. Capturing the feelings of a lot of companies in the UK feeling in fear of the ominous Rule 40, Oddbins launched a ‘marketing counter strike’ a week ago. The high street mainstay unveiled special window displays designed to irk the London 2012 organisers, rewarding customers who go out of their way to adorn themselves with the rival brands of LOCOG’s main sponsors.
Anyone wearing Nike trainers who has in their pocket a set of Vauxhall car keys, an RBS MasterCard, an iPhone, a bill from British Gas and a receipt for a Pepsi bought at KFC will receive 30 per cent off their purchase at Oddbins during the Olympics.
