Under Armour Announce Southampton FC Partnership
Who needs one Premier League club when you can have two? Well the answer is Under Armour. Yes Tottenham aren’t alone any longer. They have only gone and announced a long-term deal with south-coasters Southampton FC, running until 2023 (phew we can finally say something).
Southampton join the likes of Andy Murray, Memphis Depay, Anthony Joshua, Jordan Spieth and Tottenham Hotspur in Team Under Armour. Not a bad collection really is it?
That’s without our global powerhouse football athletes – Jonathan Tah joined Team UA this week, Granit Xhaka came on board last month (as did AJ), while new deals are being struck globally almost every month now, from Colo-Colo to Sao Paolo and more.
Come July 1, the club will be teammates with Under Armour for seven years. Under Armour will assist with game-changing technologies and product innovations that will develop the team’s performances on the pitch. However, it won’t just be on the pitch they progress.
Under Armour and Southampton have promised a massive six-pointer…
The manufacturer has promised to innovate and create products enabling the first team to perform to the highest level, develop the academy’s next generation and also provide 5000 pairs of footwear to the club’s academy by 2023.
More pledges include working alongside the Saints Foundation and kitting out more than 5,000 children in the local community, develop the women’s and girls’ game through Under Armour’s shared expertise and invaluable knowledge. That’s not it, so don’t go anywhere just yet!
They will also help realise Southampton’s global ambitions by spreading the benefits of sport and healthy living through technology and activations and finally they will commit to having fans and innovation at the centre of everything they do.
Under Armour will develop and design match kits beginning with the club’s 2016/2017 home and away strips.
I know we’re biased but Under Armour are the hottest sports brand in the world, with Southampton pushing on to become part of the ‘big boys’ in the Premier League, this partnership will certainly thrive.
Southampton are nearing the end of yet another stunning season as their meteoric rise to fame continues. With a comms team ever-growing in football fans (welcome to the squad, Rob and Jono), it would be an understatement to say we are ruddy excited for the next half dozen seasons with the south-coasters. Who knows what could happen? Bring it on!
