Virgin Media gives Premier League away fans a better deal
As football fans, we’re sure many people have shared the same experience of travelling the length of the country to watch your football team play away from home. The coach or train journey filled with fellow supporters sharing stories, football chants and the, ahem, occasional alcoholic beverage, before grabbing a pie for dinner and settling down in your seat as the rain pours and your team end up losing 3-0…. Okay, maybe that’s just Damon’s team (Aston Villa)…. In any case, it’s not a cheap day out once you’ve added the cost of the ticket to your travel expenses and filled your belly with the finest football stadium pastries money can buy.
Well, Virgin Media and the Football Supporters’ Federation did something about it ahead of the start of the new season, as they partnered to offer fans a better deal on their away tickets. So we were delighted to be able to support their announcement that every away fan ticket from every Premier League club visiting St Mary’s this season will be subsidised by Virgin Media and cost just £20 for adults!
And the fans weren’t the only ones to celebrate the news, as we secured positive stories across the national and regional press, including the Mail Online and The Sun. The campaign also received a very positive response across social media, as football supporters and media alike commented on the great impact this will have on fans this season.
Away fans bring the noise and colour to grounds and help generate the atmosphere which makes English football so popular to audiences around the world. Virgin Media and the Football Supporters’ Federation feel it’s about time that some of the wealth generated through TV rights deals, sponsorships, player sales and merchandising was passed back to the fans, and we’re certainly looking forward to more cheaper away days this season!
